Standing at 6 feet, 6 inches tall, broad-shouldered and thickly-muscled, Oshane Thomas is blessed with all the physical attributes of becoming a menacing fast bowler in the mould of Patrick Patterson, another Jamaican fast bowler of the 1980s and 1990s era.

Thomas captured the imagination when he clocked deliveries of 97 miles an hour during a Caribbean Premier League game in 2017 for the Jamaica Tallawahs against St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots, where he grabbed three wickets, which included the scalps of Chris Gayle and Carlos Brathwaite.

A year later, he was chosen in the West Indies squad for the Tour of India, where he made his ODI debut and again caught the eye. With the ability to swing the ball at pace, he made batting uncomfortable for the Indian batsmen, but it was clear that he still had much to learn.

The highlight of his fledgling career has been his five wickets against England in a decisive final match of the 2019 ODI home series, which allowed West Indies to earn plaudits by tying a five-match series 2-2.

Possessing raw pace, and with age on his side and still plenty to learn, Thomas could develop into becoming one of the key weapons for the West Indies in the future.
