Stafanie Taylor
“Stafanie Taylor is West Indies Women’s Cricket” This has been the common narrative written worldwide for the duration of Stafanie’s playing career. Currently fifth on the all-time Women’s ODI list and third on the T20 list, Stafanie is in a category of her own when it comes to WINDIES Women’s cricketers. She possesses a quality of leadership that has not been seen in many other female athletes, particularly from our region. Stafanie takes responsibility and charge from the get-go, holding herself accountable for both her individual and the team’s performance. When Stafanie takes the field, opponents are unsure how to plan their attack as she is the best timer of an innings in women’s cricket. She reads the game with an accuracy and logic, knowing when to accelerate and when to defend against the best bowlers.
A few months of the year she plays franchise cricket in the UK with Western Storm and in Australia with Sydney Thunder in the WBBL. While abroad she still checks in with her WINDIES Women’s teammates to ensure they’re doing well. Stafanie is a total champion if ever there was one, the only title missing from her repertoire is that of 50-over World Cup Winner. She has won the ICC Women’s World T20 title, which she captained the WINDIES Women to in 2016. She has also won the Kia Super League in 2017 with the Western Storm, and in 2016 was the highest runs scorer, also ending with the most sixes in the same tournament.
Despite the fearless, fierce and focused demeanor she has on the field, Stafanie is one of the most kind, sensitive and humble individuals you will meet. She is extremely light-hearted and relaxed when among her peers and friends. For all of her young 27 years, Stafanie possesses a deep intellect and mature attitude to life both on and off field. She is also very modest about her accomplishments and usually says that she lets her performance speak for her. She is just as talented in the kitchen as she is with bat and ball on the cricket field. Her teammates will definitely agree that she’s one of the better cooks on the team, particularly when she churns out her native Jamaican dishes.
