Anisa Mohammed
“Twin or Twinny” as she is fondly called by her teammates in the highest T20 wicket-taker in international cricket, male or female. Currently atop the list with 107, Mohammed is a very quiet and diminutive Trinidadian who despite her height, is deadly with her off-spin. Anisa is also the highest WINDIES Women’s ODI wicket-taker. She can easily confuse opponents with flighting the ball or a googly in the middle of the over.
The nickname “Twin” isn’t as original as one might think because Anisa is actually half of a twin. Her sister also played cricket with Anisa, both played for Trinidad and Tobago Divas. Anisa recalls both herself and Alisa running through 20 overs easily and snapping up wickets because the batters weren’t sure who was bowling from opposite ends. Anisa has been a part of the WINDIES Women for over 16 years, making her one of the most senior players on the squad. She is also the vice-captain who, Stafanie calls her right-arm. Both Captain and Vice-Captain have a strong bond, communicating with each other regularly about tactical and team plans.
Anisa is hopeful to remain in the cricket industry long after her playing days, whether as an administrator or coach. However, there is no retirement in the foreseeable future as she looks to increase her wickets in Twenty20 Internationals.
