Shakera Selman
Armed with a Bachelor’s Degree in Linguistics from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill, “Sellie” is one of the most articulate athletes in the region. She brings a fast-medium pace to the WINDIES Women and is one of the two opening bowlers, along with Connell. Sellie can get deliveries to zing past the heads of opposing batters or swing the ball back into the batter, but she’s a kind and sensitive person as well.
In 2017 she suffered a major knee injury while fielding against Sri Lanka in the Home Series in Antigua. This required her to have surgery and lengthy rehabilitation which she has successfully completed, returning to her spot on the team. Sellie, is the sister we all wish we had, she’s thoughtful and aggravating at the same time. She’s the one to call for lunch plans between the ladies and one of the first ones to be in for hanging out or just relaxing. Another gamer on the team, Sellie still has some ways to go before she reaches the level of Hayley or Chedean but she’s getting ther.
Shakera is definitely one who will be around cricket long after her playing days are done, but for now, we like having her tormenting opposing batters with her variations.
