Port-of-Spain, Trinidad – An enterprising day in the field for the Men in Maroon produced four wickets on day one of the historic 100th Test Match between the West Indies and India.  

The day started with a short ceremony to commemorate the momentous occasion between both nations, Cricket West Indies (CWI) President, Kishore Shallow with legend Brian Lara presenting plaques to both captains.  This being after the West Indies came out of the toss victorious and deciding to bowl at the Indians first.

An impressive opening stand of 139 put India on top early, but a post-lunch session where the Caribbean men picked up four wickets for 61 runs, left the match looking evenly poised at tea with India on 182-4 (50.4 Overs). india was led with the bat by Yashasvi Jaiswal (57 from 74) and captain Rohit Sharma (80 from 143).

Four bowlers got one wicket each, with Jason Holder (1-30) starting the party.  Kemar Roach (1-64), Jomel Warrican (1-55) and Shannon Gabriel (1-50) were the other successful bowlers.  The day ended with Virat Kohli (87* from 161) and Ravindra Jadeja (36* from 84) looking solid at the crease.

Speaking in the post-match press conference, bowling coach Kenneth Benjamin said “I believe we were a little bit disappointed that we didn’t pick up a wicket a wicket or two pre-lunch, but I think we did well after lunch to get 4 wickets.  Then kudos to Virat and Jadeja, I thought they played really well.”

Both teams will be eager to stamp their authority on the game in an important morning session on Day 2, with the first ball scheduled to be bowled at 10am.
