Port-of-Spain, Trinidad – West Indies have a chance to claim a victory in the historic 100th Test match against India, as Day 4 ended with the Men in Maroon on 76-2 (32 Overs).  Tagenarine Chanderpaul (24 from 98) and Jermaine Blackwood (20 from 39) are in the middle for the home team.

The West Indies began the day batting, with Jason Holder (15 from 44) and Alick Athanaze (37 from 115) at the crease but lost their final five wickets within the first session of a rain affected day.  They ended their first innings on 255 runs, trailing the Indians by 183 runs.

India came out to bat and made their intentions clear, scoring 181-2 before declaring.  All top four batsmen got scores, with all but Shubman Gill (29* from 37) scoring at a rate over 100.  He was at the crease with Ishan Kishan (52 from 34).  Yashasvi Jaiswal (38 from 30) and Rohit Sharma (57 from 44) were the batters dismissed.

Coming back to bat in the second innings, the West Indies opening pair did well to see off the new ball with an opening stand of 38 before captain Kraigg Brathwaite (28 from 52) fell in the 18th over.  The other opener, Chanderpaul continues to bat, alongside vice-captain Blackwood, with the West Indies requiring 289 runs for victory in the match.

Speaking in the post-match press conference, Blackwood said “As a team, we know that once we go and apply ourselves tomorrow, we can put India under pressure in the field.”

He continued, “The crucial thing tomorrow is that Tage and I take us through the first hour, then we can take it from there.  It’s going to be hard, but we have to put up our hands tomorrow.”

First ball of Day 5 will be at 9:30AM at the Queens Park Oval on Monday, 24 July.
