Guyana eyeing third win on Bajan turf

Captain Leon Johnson is expecting a strong performance from his team when the Guyana Jaguars face Barbados Pride as the Cricket West Indies Four-day First-class tournament resumes on Friday. The defending champions are at the top of the table after the first two rounds of matches and will meet the home side at Kensington Oval. Guyana will be boosted with the return of the Windies trio of Chandrapaul Hemraj, Sherfane Rutherford and Raymon Reifer.

First ball is 10am (9am Jamaica Time) and matches will be broadcast via the CWI online stream at. https://www.windiescricket.com

“We have done quite well so far this season – before the break in December – and we will look to make it three out of three (wins) when we come up against Barbados,” Johnson said.

“It is always a great match-up when we play against Barbdos and the fact that we are top of the table and they are second makes it even more intriguing. We are focused and we are up for the challenge.”

Johnson was speaking ahead of his team’s training session at the historic venue. Guyana will be without Windies trio: batsman Shimron Hetmyer and all-rounder Keemo Paul, and leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo but Johnson backed his young charges to deliver.

“We have a good mixture in our side, with some very knowledgeable and experienced players as well as some young and exciting talents. We will be coming up against a strong opponent on their home turf, but we back ourselves to get the job done,” Johnson said.
