COUVA, Trinidad – Windward Islands continued their good run of form in the West Indies Rising Stars Women’s Under 19 Championship with an 80-run victory over Barbados at the National Cricket Centre on Tuesday.

Batting first, Windwards posted 196-3 from their 30 overs. Their top order all contributed with the bat, Jannillea Glasgow top-scored with 44 not out from 55 balls, Zaida James added 42 from 46, Namiah Marcellin was run out for 39 and Earnisha Fontaine also run out for 25. NaiJanni Cumberbatch was the only Barbadian bowler with a wicket, finishing with figures of 5-0-14-1.

Rained interrupted the Bajan run chase, and they had to get a Duckworth/Lewis/Stern (DLS) revised target of 134 in 17 overs. However, they never came close to that, as they mustered 53-7 in the allotted overs. Skipper Trishan Holder top-scored with 13 while Cumberbatch made 11. Leg-spinner Abini St. Jean was the pick of the Windward bowlers, finishing with figures of 4-1-7-3.

GUYANA EDGE PAST JAMAICA

Nyia Latchman spun a web on the Jamaican batters as Guyana won by 25 runs defending at Gilbert Park Cricket Ground. Guyana batting first posted 84 all out in 28.4 overs, Sarah Amin top-scored with 23 followed by captain and recent West Indies Women’s debutant Ashimini Munisar who scored 16. Kate Wilmott with 5.4-2-18-3, Jaunel Deers 6-2-14-2 and Aneisha Miller 6-0-14-2 were the pick of the Jamaica bowlers and they put their team in a winning position.

Latchman, with her leg-spin, wrecked the Jamaican batting line-up as they were dismissed for 59 in 19.1 overs. Latchman finished with figures of 5.1-1-15-4 followed by Cyanna Retemiah with 5-1-9-2 and Munisar with 6-1-13-2.

RAIN FORCES ABANDONMENT BETWEEN T&T AND LEEWARDS

The third match between Trinidad and Tobago and the Leeward Islands was abandoned due to rain. Leewards batting first were able to post 84-8 from their 30 overs, thanks to a 19 from skipper Jahzara Claxton and 10 from Aaliyah Weekes. KDJazz Mitchell was outstanding with the ball and ended with figures of 6-3-3-5, followed by Samara Ramnath with 6-4-4-2, before the rains came.
