A magnificent bowling performance led West Indies Rising Stars U19s to a superb victory over South Africa U19s in the final Youth ODI on Monday. With the series on the line the home side were bowled out for 126. They rebounded in spectacular fashion and dismissed the visitors for 107 off 23.5 overs, to record a comfortable win and level the four-match rubber 2-2.

The bowling attack was led by the fast bowling of Johan Layne, the tall new ball bowler who took 3-34 off his eight overs and McKenny Clarke, with worked up impressive pace to end with 3-23 off six overs. Left-arm spinner Jaden Carmichael again demonstrated great control and took the final wicket to finish with 3-14 off 2.5 overs. It was a pleasing end to the series and West Indies will now head to Guyana for the start of the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup tournament with confidence.

Earlier in the day, Teddy Bishop stood out with the bat. The tall right-hander scored a polished 43 off 46 balls, which included six boundaries. He shared a fourth-wicket stand of 58 with keeper Rivaldo Clarke, who made 30 off 46 balls with three fours. Dewald Brevis was the best bowler for the Proteas with 4-11 off four overs.

Cricket West Indies will host the 14th edition of the for the first time ever, as the event which showcases the future stars of the game will see 16 teams travelling to the Caribbean to compete in 48 matches from January 14 to February 5 across four host countries.

The 16 teams competing will see current holders Bangladesh, England, Canada and the United Arab Emirates form Group A, with Uganda placed in Group B alongside India, South Africa and Ireland. Group C comprises Pakistan, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe and Papua New Guinea and Group D sees host West Indies, Australia and Sri Lanka. Scotland complete the tournament line up in Group D.

The four host countries have been confirmed as Antigua, Guyana, St Kitts and Nevis and Trinidad with 10 venues hosting matches. The format will see the top two teams from each of the four groups advance to the Super League while the remaining teams feature in the Plate across 23 days of competition.
