USA secure vital win over Leewards as rain halts other matches

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad – All three matches in Cricket West Indies Women’s Rising Stars T20 tournament on Saturday were heavily affected by rain. In the limited play, USA beat Leeward Islands by 47 runs (Duckworth/Lewis/Stern Method) at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy.

The other matches between Barbados and Windward Islands at the same venue, and Trinidad & Tobago against Jamaica at Diego Martin Sports Complex ended in no results.

USA rattled by 169-2 off 17.5 overs but the rain came and ended their innings. The highlight came from the bat of Snigdha Paul, who made 81 not out off 53 balls which included 14 boundaries. She shared an opening partnership of 83 with Chetnaa Prasad who made 36 off 31 balls before she was run out. The free-scoring Paul then shared a second wicket stand of 86 with Mitali Patwardhan, who chipped win with 23 off 26 balls. In rely, Leewards 16-1 off seven overs when a heavy shower came and forced the end of the match.

Womens U17 2022

In the day’s first match Trinidad & Tobago reached 50-4 off seven overs when the rains came. Jamaica’s bowlers were steady and the best on show was Kade Wilmott, who picked up the first two wickets to fall to finish with 2-17. In the final contest, Barbados were 6-1 off the one over bowled by Windwards when the rain intervened. The wicket went to Windwards’ fast bowling allrounder Jannellia Glasgow, who has emerged as one of the leading players so far.

The tournament continues on Sunday with one match as Leeward Islands take on Jamaica at Diego Martin Sporting Complex. First ball is 9:30am (8:30am Jamaica Time).
