Off-spinner Hayley Matthews took a career-best four-wicket haul as West Indies bowlers led the way in a brilliant victory on Thursday, Matthews ended with 4-29 off her four overs as Pakistan were bowled out 116 after being set a target of 154. The result gave West Indies an unassailable 2-0 series win – following their 45-run victory on the opening match on Monday.
“We wanted to get more that 153, batting first, but we knew when we came off at the innings break that the wicket was kind of hard to play your shots on and a bit slow and therefore it was one where if we bowled in the right areas, we could restrict Pakistan,” Matthews said after the match. “We executed really well, and the energy was really high in the field, and this was a really good win for the team.”
Fast bowler Shamilia Connell also had career-best figures as she turned in a brilliant performance as well. Her 3-18 came off 9.2 overs and included a double-wicket maiden as Pakistan slipped from 111-5 to lose their last five wickets for just five runs. She ended the match will a spectacular delivery which bowled Anam Amin and West Indies were able to celebrate their first ODI Series win in Pakistan since 2004.
