Shakera Selman – Selman is the Windies most experienced seam bowler, having bowled 1154 deliveries in T20I cricket, and taking 41 wickets. She is also their most economical seam bowler, and is the only seamer in the squad to have an economy rate below a run a ball

The best time to bowl Selman is either in the opening Powerplay, or in the death overs. In the opening exchanges Selman keeps it tight, with a career economy of 5.36 and a dot ball percentage of 58.7. She can also be relied upon at the death to take wickets, with a career strike rate of 8.9 and an average of 10.81. This is the lowest strike rate in this phase by any West Indies seam bowler in the squad

Shamilia Connell - Connell is the Windies quickest bowler, with her fastest recorded delivery in women’s T20I cricket 129.01 kph and her average speed up at 113.50kph. She will be looking to utilise the pace and bounce from the wickets in Australia to her advantage, in an attempt to blow away the opposition players.

Connell is most effective in the first Powerplay, where he has taken the majority of her wickets, and where her bowling average is lowest. In the first Powerplay, she has the lowest boundary percentage of any of the seamers, which contributes to her excellent economy rate in the first six of 5.54. Connell struggles bowling at the death, with an economy rate of 10.21, and over a quarter of the balls she bowls disappearing to the boundary.

Deandra Dottin – Dottin is the Windies leading wicket taking seamer, with 59 career T20 wickets, an exceptional career average of 18.08 and strike rate of 17.4. She also has the ability to bowl in the high 120’s, with her fastest recorded delivery at 127.58 kph.

She is exceptional when bowling in the middle overs, with an economy rate of 5.95 and a very low strike rate of 17.10. She also manages to keep it remarkably tight at the death, with an exceptional economy rate of 7.01 and a dot percentage of 40.1. She also manages to take a wicket every 9.3 deliveries that she bowls in this period.

Chinelle Henry/Chedean Nation – These two part time bowlers have a total of 13 wickets between them. Nation is the more economical bowler of the two going at just a shade over a run a ball. She has a better average too – 18.71 compared to Henry’s 30.50. Henry has more experience bowling at T20I level however.

For these two bowlers there is not a huge sample size to look at when it comes to their numbers by innings phases. From the limited data we have available, Nation excels in the middle overs striking every 15 balls she bowls and only giving away 10% boundaries.

Anisa Mohammed – The West Indies have a glut of quality spinners at their disposal, and none have been as successful as Anisa Mohammed. She has taken 118 career T20I wickets at an average of 17.20, taking a wicket every 18.4 deliveries.

She is an excellent middle overs bowler and has taken the vast majority of her wickets in this phase. She keeps it tight, and strikes regularly, having the lowest average (18.72) and strike rate (20.7) of any of the spinners in the squad. She also fares well at the death, going at just over a run a ball and only conceding 8% boundaries. She is an excellent bowling option in either of these phases.

Stafanie Taylor – The all-round skills of the Windies captain are no great secret. She has the highest career batting average, and lowest career bowling average in the squad. In short she is their best player. She should, and will be at the heart of everything the Windies will do in this tournament. She has 84 international T20 wickets going at 17.08 runs-a-piece with best figures of 4/12.

She is an excellent option to bowl at any phase of the innings, but her stats in the death overs are remarkable. She is able to keep it extremely tight, whilst also providing a constant wicket taking threat. She bowls 37.1% dot balls at the death, only going for 6.6% boundaries and takes a wicket every 12.8 balls she bowls.

Hayley Matthews – Matthews has 45 international T20 wickets at an average of 17.48, and takes her wickets more frequently than any of the other spinners in the squad, every 17.8 balls, second only to Deandra Dottin.

Matthews bowls best in the first powerplay, where her average of 14.50 is lowest in the entire squad. She also has the joint best strike rate in this phase, with Afy Fletcher, but due to Matthews’ larger sample size, she should be the preferred option. She is also a wicket-taker with the death, but a little more expensive than the other options, with an economy rate of 7.52 in this phase.

Afy Fletcher – Fletcher has taken the majority of her wickets in the middle phase of the innings, but she is however marginally the most expensive spinner in these overs that the Windies have in their roster.

Her most impressive stat is her economy rate at the death, which at 5.76 and less than a run a ball, is the lowest in the entire Windies squad. She should definitely be considered as a serious bowling option in this phase
