CRICVIZ - Windies' Decade in Numbers

CRICVIZ - Windies' Decade in Numbers

3506 - Darren Bravo’s test runs for the decade, the most of any West Indies batsman. Whilst he ekes out his runs a little slower than most (going along at just 2.7rpo), Bravo has been the most substantive player around for the men in maroon. Eight centuries spread over a decade isn't an astounding yield, but his run tally is more than anyone else.

3093 and 1480 - Marlon Samuels ODI and T20I runs for the decade, both being the most of any West Indies batsman. Most remembered for his winning knock in the 2016 World T20 final, when he saw Daren Sammy's side home against England. A tenacious competitor who found his true home in white ball cricket, Samuels will be remembered as someone the opposition never wanted to face.

173 - Kemar Roach's Test wicket haul for the decade, the largest of any West Indies bowler. Roach has had a few stints in Test cricket, but the consistent through line across his performances has been his ability to take wickets. An average of 26.89, in an era when Caribbean pitches have been far less helpful than previous ones, is extremely impressive.

141.43kph - Tino Best's average speed in international cricket this decade, the fastest of any Windies bowler. Caribbean cricket has rarely been short of pure pace, but the stocks did slightly fall in the 2010s, and Best was an exception. A bustling, muscular presence at the crease, Best was able to reach speeds that even Roach, Thomas and the like would have been pleased with.

293 - the number of international sixes Chris Gayle hit over the 2010s. Gayle's renowned around the world for his powerful left-handed strokeplay, hammering the ball to all parts (largely) in T20 cricket. Over the last 10 years, no Caribbean batsman has cleared the ropes more often in international cricket, and the best (Kieron Pollard) only managed 169. Hopefully there's still time for some more from Gayle in the 2020s.

31 - the number of runs Evin Lewis scored off one Stuart Binny over, the most by any West Indies batsman against a single bowler in a single over. In August 2016, with Lewis announcing himself as a huge talent in Windies white ball cricket, he cracked five sixes off a single over from the Indian all-rounder, falling just one short of the mythical six-sixes mark.

+93.1 - the highest Batting Impact for an ODI innings this decade, from Kieron Pollard. In an ODI in 2011 against India, Pollard made 119 (110) in a total of 233 all out. CricViz's Impact rating suggests that Pollard's knock was responsible for lifting the Windies total by 93 runs - no other innings in this decade, from a Windies batsman, has been as effective.
