CricViz Analysis: Lara and Sarwan Boost West Indies

Brian Lara’s addition to the West Indies backroom staff in advance of their series against India is a major coup for the team. Lara will be working alongside his former teammate Ramnaresh Sarwan in a consultancy role.

Lara’s record needs no introduction - the left-hander from Trinidad is regarded as one of the finest players ever to play the game - only six players have scored more international runs than Lara’s 22,358.

Lara’s career was marked by his penchant for huge scores - his 400 not out against England in Antigua remains the highest individual score in Test history and he made two scores of more than 300 at Test level. His 501 not out for Warwickshire is also the highest first class score.

The addition of Sarwan is also a huge boost to the West Indies - Sarwan is arguably an underrated West Indian great: he has scored 11,944 runs at international level, the eighth most.

Lara and Sarwan are no strangers to one another. Together the pair played 58 partnerships together in Test cricket and scored 3,198 runs while at the crease together - no player scored more runs with Lara.

If these two West Indian legends have even half the impact on the current team as they did when they were playing, their introduction to the setup will be considered a huge success.
