Cricket West Indies Congratulates Kemar Roach on Reaching 300 Test Wickets

Captain Roston Chase and Head Coach Daren Sammy Record First Test Match Win

ST. JOHN'S, Antigua – Cricket West Indies (CWI) extends heartfelt congratulations to veteran fast bowler Kemar Roach on becoming just the fifth West Indian to claim 300 Test wickets, achieving the historic milestone during the West Indies' memorable victory over Sri Lanka in the opening Test at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.

Roach now joins an elite group of West Indies bowling legends – Sir Curtly Ambrose, Courtney Walsh, Malcolm Marshall and Lance Gibbs – to have reached the coveted 300-wicket mark in Test cricket, further cementing his place among the top bowlers in the rich history of West Indies cricket.

The landmark achievement came as West Indies secured a dominant innings and 217 runs victory over Sri Lanka, marking a memorable occasion for the regional side and providing another proud chapter in Roach's distinguished international career.

Cricket West Indies President Dr. The Honourable Kishore Shallow hailed the achievement as one befitting one of the region's modern-day greats.

"On behalf of Cricket West Indies and the people of the Caribbean, I extend heartfelt congratulations to Kemar Roach on reaching the incredible milestone of 300 Test wickets. To stand alongside Sir Curtly Ambrose, Courtney Walsh, Malcolm Marshall and Lance Gibbs is a remarkable accomplishment and a fitting tribute to Kemar's outstanding career, unwavering professionalism and exceptional commitment to West Indies cricket.
Kemar has been the standard-bearer for West Indies fast bowling for well over a decade, delivering time and again with skill, heart and determination. His consistency, dedication and passion for representing the maroon have inspired teammates and cricket fans throughout the region. As we celebrate this extraordinary milestone with Kemar, we wish his continued success as he builds on his legacy."

Dr. Shallow also congratulated captain Roston Chase and Head Coach Daren Sammy following their first Test victory in their respective leadership roles.

"This victory is a significant moment for our Test team, and I offer sincere congratulations to Captain Roston Chase and Head Coach Daren Sammy on securing their first Test wins as the leaders of the team. It is equally fitting to recognize the outstanding individual performances that underpinned this triumph, particularly Amir Jangoo’s magnificent maiden Test double century of 233 and Chase’s superb 194, a true captain’s knock that put the team firmly in control of the match.
With much work still ahead, I appreciate that this victory gives our players and supporters renewed confidence and provides us with an excellent platform to build on. I congratulate every member of the team and support staff on an outstanding performance."

With the series now underway, West Indies will look to build on the momentum from the opening Test as they continue their campaign against Sri Lanka on July 3rd.
