Points leaders the Windward Islands Volcanoes started strongly against the Barbados Pride in their Round 2 clash at the Kensington Cricket Club in Jamaica.

Winning the toss and sending the Pride in to bat first, paid dividends for the Volcanoes as Ryan John ran rampage again with the ball and caused a Pride batting collapse. Kevin Wickham continued his run of form with the bat as he top-scored with 74 and wicketkeeper Shane Dowrich chipped in with 37. The Pride were bowled out for 214, with John ending with figures of 16-1-74-4, followed by Darel Cyrus with 7-0-41-2 and Shamar Springer- 11.5-0-61-2.

In their reply, the Windward Islands Volcanoes openers Jeremy Solozano and skipper Kimani Melius made the experienced Barbados bowlers toil in the hot Jamaica sunshine. Melius who struggled in Round 1 against the Jamaica Scorpions opened his run-tally for the tournament. Melius and Solozano who also brought up his half-century partnered for a 123-run opening stance without losing a wicket. Chaim-Holder Alexis was the most economical Pride bowler, with figures of 8.5-1-28-0.

At Sabina Park, the Combined Campuses and Colleges are holding strong against the Jamaica Scorpions, as Jonathan Carter smashed a century to help his team close Day 1 on 260/7. He had contributions of 36 from Shamarh Brooks and U19 player Zishan Motara who ended the day on 28 not out. Abhijai Mansingh 2/37, Ojay Shields 2/42 and Gordon Bryan 2/56 were the pick of the Scorpions bowlers.

Over in St. Kitts, the Leeward Islands Hurricanes and defending champions Guyana Harpy Eagles are battling at Warner Park. Hurricanes won the toss and chose to bat first and ended Day 1 on 299/6 thanks to a top score from Mikyle Louis of 113 and 77 from wicketkeeper Jahmar Hamilton, Rahkeem Cornwall is not out on 39. Ronaldo Alimohamed had the best bowling figures for Guyana with 15.3-2-49-2, while Neiland Cadogan, Kevin Sinclair, and Antony Adams picked up one wicket each.

At Conaree Cricket Centre, Trinidad and Tobago Red Force are seeking their first win of the Championship, since their first match ended in a no result against the Harpy Eagles. Red Force bowled out the West Indies Academy for 163, with Jayden Seales being the leader in wickets. He finished with figures of 3/26, but not before Teddy Bishop who returned from Australia where he was a member of the West Indies Men’s ODI team. Bishop struck a quick 65 off 74 deliveries which included 12 fours. His namesake, Joshua Bishop was next best with the bat for the Academy with 32 runs followed by Johann Layne who added 27. Anderson Phillip joined Seales in the wickets column, with figures of 3/63.

In their reply, Red Force closed Day 1 on 128/3, thanks to 54 from Vikash Mohan and 28 from Cephas Cooper. Amir Jangoo 24 and Jyd Goolie 15 were the not-out batsmen at the close of play. Joshua Bishop returned with the ball to take 2/35 while Ashmead Nedd had 1/33 as the Academy looked to make inroads into the Red Force batting line-up to prevent a sizeable first innings lead.
