Six Machines! Record number of maximums as West Indies and England go big!

The ongoing T20 International Series between West Indies and England has turned into a SIX-HITTING extravaganza with both teams bringing out the big bats. So far in the four completed matches, the two sides have combined for 108 sixes which is the most sixes for any bilateral series between two full-member nations – the previous record was 96.

In this series, West Indies have smashed 57 sixes and England have managed 51 – and all this, with one match left! It will be amazing to see how many more we will see flying into the stands at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy and even out of the ground in the grand finale on Thursday evening.

Earlier, in the opening victory in Kensington Oval in Barbados West Indies hit 14 sixes as they chased down 171 to win by four wickets. This was followed by another 13 in the second match at Grenada National Stadium as they won by 10 runs.

The third match, also in Grenada saw the home boys rattle up 16 maximums as they lost a cliffhanger. Then came the fourth match on Tuesday at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, and West Indies managed another 14 sixes albeit in a losing cause.

There is more to come on the six-hitting prowess. This year West Indies have hit 150 sixes in 12 completed matches. The most in a match was a whopping 22 when they scored 258-5 against South Africa at Centurion in March. During that epic encounter, Johnson Charles hit 11 sixes as he top-scored with 118 off 46 balls.

The 150 this year is an average of 12.5 sixes per match, which is the most of any full-member nation in any year. The next highest average is Australia with 9.4 per match.
