St.John’s, Antigua - Cricket West Indies is fully supportive of the Saint Lucia government's vision for cricket and wider sports development in the Caribbean, by establishing a National Sports Academy following a courtesy call on Friday September 20th with Saint Lucia Prime Minister, Hon Allen Chastanet.

Representing CWI was Vice President Dr. Kishore Shallow, CEO Johnny Grave Director and CWI Windward Islands Director Julian Charles.

According to the Prime Minister, the government has partnered with the Saint Lucia National Cricket Association and the Saint Lucia Football Association for the commencement of the Sports Academy.

As part of the curriculum students will undertake the following compulsory programs and subjects:

-ACT / SAT / NCAA / College Prep

-General Conditioning

-Skill Development

-Counselling and Participation in a Club of their choice

-Mathematics

-English

-Social Sciences

-Foreign Languages – French and Spanish

-Information Technology

-Physical Education and Sports

The students will also be exposed to a series of electives to choose from, some of which include but are not restricted to:

-Sports Technology – Programming, Digital Media

-Career Readiness – Sports Officiating, Sports Medicine, Coaching, Journalism & Sports Economics

-Psychological and Social Development

-Athletic Health & Safety – First Aid, Nutrition, Strength and Conditioning.

This sports academy in Saint Lucia matches up ideally with three (2) of the Skerritt-Shallow 10 point ‘Cricket First’ campaign plans in; Increased investment in grassroots cricket and Utilization of regional technical expertise.
