Willet spins Nevis to first innings lead (LICA Tourney)
CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – The young leg-spinner Akito Willett snared six wickets for Nevis to secure first innings points against British Virgin Islands (BVI) on the opening day of their Leeward Islands Cricket Association (LICA) three-day match on Thursday.
Sent to bat at Grove Park, BVI tumbled to 162 all out, and Nevis had reached 222 for seven in reply at stumps.
In the BVI’s innings, Willett finished with figures of six for 35 off 10.3 overs, while Nelson Boland claimed two for 19 off seven overs and Trevier Smithen, two for 21 off nine.
Leeward Islands player Maxford Pipe top-scored for visiting BVI with 54, backed up by Daniel Singh (38) and Lennox Samuel (27).
When Nevis replied, Daynason Browne (65) and Tonito Willett (51) smashed half-centuries to set up their first-innings ascendancy.
Browne and Javia Liburd shared in a 114-run fourth-wicket stand.
Pipe led the BVI bowling with four for 62 off 16 overs.
