Sweeney hundred helps Montserrat whip USVI

LITTLE BAY, Montserrat (CMC) - Zhuan Sweeney stroked a brisk hundred to highlight a 155-run victory for Montserrat over US Virgin Islands (USVI) in their NAGICO Leeward Islands Cricket Association (LICA) limited overs match on Sunday.
Sent in to bat at the Little Bay Field, the Montserrations piled up a formidable total of 328 for five off their 50 overs, and the visiting USVI slumped to a heavy defeat when they could only post 173 all out in 43.4 overs.
McPherson Meade and captain Trevor Semper, with final all-round performances, were also standouts in Montserrat's victory.
Batting at No.3, the left-handed Sweeney, scored 103 off 111 balls with 14 fours and one six to propel the home side to their huge total.
Meade hit 74 off 95 balls with three boundaries, and captain Trevor Semper provided the most excitement with a blistering knock of 60 off just 26 balls with 10 fours and two sixes.
In USVI's reply, Shurville Huggins top-scored with 51 off 68 balls and Bradley Laurent (39) was the next highest scorer.
Meade led the Montserrat bowling with four for 20 off 7.4 overs of his off-spin, while Semper took two for 29 off 10 overs, also with off-spin.
The result was satisfying for the Monterratians, whose victory bid in their three-day match was spoilt by rain on Saturday.
