Dyson: We will be ready

CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand -- West Indies Head Coach John Dyson said on Monday his players will be “fully ready” when they come face-to-face with New Zealand in the upcoming two-match Test Series. Speaking after the West Indies arrived in Auckland from Christchurch, Dyson noted that the preparations were going really well for what is expected to be a crucial series.

“We had very good training sessions in Christchurch [at Bert Sutcliffe Oval]. This week we will be looking to have a very good three-day game and also to have some more time in the nets as we get fully ready for the Test Series,” Dyson said.

The West Indies will face the Auckland team in an official First-Class match from Friday to Sunday at the Eden Park Outer Oval. The first Test will be at the University Oval in Dunedin and the second Test at McLean Park, Napier.

“We have no problem focussing on the matches. The players know how important it is to get ready for Test cricket. This Series will be a contest between two teams closely placed on the International Cricket Council table. Both teams talk about moving up the rankings and this series will be a good indication of where we both are,” Dyson added.

“We look to our experienced players, as all teams do, to provide those big performances and do the job. We are also looking towards our young players to play their part. We are looking for consistency and for them to justify the faith that has been placed in them.”

The West Indies will continue their preparation with a full training session on Tuesday at Eden Park.
