Morton hits ton in Leewards warm-up match
BASSETERRE -- Runako Morton stroked 100 to give his side control against Omari Banks' XI on the second day of the first Leeward Islands practice match ahead of the West Indies Cricket Board’s Four-day Regional Tournament.
From an overnight position of 17-2, Morton’s XI rallied to make 318-6 in reply to 232 made by Banks’ team at the Molyneux Ground. Morton, who has represented the West Indies in 15 Tests and 49 One-Day Internationals, faced 121 balls and hit 11 fours and four sixes. He shared in a third-wicket stand of 144 with Montcin Hodge, who made 39. At the close, wicket-keeper Devon Thomas was on 76 not out, including seven boundaries.
The Leeward Islands are slated to face the Windward Islands in another three-day practice match starting on Saturday before opening their campaign against reigning champions Jamaica in the 2009 WICB Four-day Regional Tournament on January 9.
