West Indies ready for the going Down Under

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts -- The West Indies team departed from Barbados on Tuesday night for the upcoming three-Test match series in Australia. Speaking shortly before flying out, Captain Chris Gayle acknowledged this will be a “tough” assignment but said he believes has a group of strong men who can do very well Down Under.

“We are all looking forward to the Australian tour. We all know it won’t be an easy t our but we know we have to give our all and be positive in everything we do. Th e focus is completely on cricket and we will be going there to represent the people of the Caribbean. We are looking to work as one unit and looking forward to getting good results on the field. We will give of our best,” Gayle said.

The 30-year-old Gayle has played 82 Tests making 5502 runs at just under 40 run s per innings including 10 centuries with a Test-best score of 317. The Capta in added that the team will be looking to bring back some joy to the fans of the Caribbean.

“All the players selected for this tour know what is required and we will be aiming to perform on the field. We would like to play well for the supporters of West Indies cricket and put in some good per formances. As I said before I don’t expect it to be easy, but all have the ability to perform at the highest level.”

The two teams will be competing for the Frank Worrell Trophy. The tour opens with a four-day match against Queens land at the Allan Border Ground from November 18-21. The first Test will be at t he Gabba, Brisbane from November 26-30; the second Test will be at the Ade laide Oval from December 4-8; and the third Test at the WACA Ground in Perth from Dece mber 16-20.
