Off-spinner Cush on the ball with superb hat-trick for Guyana
Lennox Cush, the Guyana off-spinner, took a superb hat-trick as Combined Campuses & Colleges were restricted to 142-9 off their 20 overs in Match 7 of the West Indies Board’s Caribbean T20 Tournament at Kensington Oval on Sunday afternoon. Cush was given the challenge of bowling the final over of the innings and what an over it turned out to be, as all three of victims were well caught in the deep to high catches.
The first ball was struck for six, but next ball Barrington Yearwood was spectacularly caught by Swenarine Chattergoon diving forward from deep mid-wicket. Next ball, Ryan Wiggins lofted a big hit to long-on where Christopher Barnwell held the chance just inside the rope. Next up, Ruel Brathwaite launched a big hit towards deep mid-wicket but the ball was held up in the stiff breeze and Eusan Crandon took a simply catch running forward.
This sparked wild celebration on the field by the Guyana players as well as the large group of supporters in the crowd. Cush ended with 4-30 from his four overs to follow-up the 4-25 he took in the first match against Windward Islands. Earlier in the innings veteran left-hander Floyd Reifer topscored with 49 from 31 balls, including four boundaries and two sixes, before he was brilliantly run out via a direct hit by Ramnaresh Sarwan. Miles Bascombe also played well at the top making 36 off 29 balls.
