Barbados and Nevis in showdown for Under-13 title
Barbados and Nevis set up a last-day showdown on Saturday when they scored wins in the penultimate series of matches in the St Kitts Under-13 tournament on Friday. While the defending champions Barbados defeated Bermuda by 54 runs, Nevis also remained unbeaten with an easy eight-wicket win over neighbours St Kitts.
Playing at the Edgar Gilbert Sports Complex, the Bajans batted first after winning the toss and made 117-5 off their 25 overs. Akil Greenidge, son of former West Indies batsman Alvin Greenidge, topscored with 34 while Leniko Boucher got 27, as Christian Gibbons claimed 2-22. The total proved enough in the end as Deswin Currency grabbed 3-14 to help bowl out Bermuda for 63 off 21.2 overs.
At Warner Park, Nevis took control of the game from the outset, winning the toss and ousting St Kitts for 86 off 23.4 overs. Cameron Pennyfeather topscored with 18 not out. Hakeem Harvey was the best bowler with 3-14, while Ankisha Bickarmajeet (2-6), Clydre Smithen (2-10) and Colin Archibald (2-12) all finished with two wickets apiece. In response, Saeed Williams stroked 41 while Ros Powell got an unbeaten 31 to steer Nevis to 89 for two off 14.4 overs.
