Birthday boy Foo ready for his biggest assignment
It was a happy day and night on Saturday for Guyana batsman Jonathan Foo as he was the centre of attention. Foo, the much-talked-about right-handed batsman celebrated his 20th birthday on Saturday, on the eve of Guyana’s opening match in the Airtel Champions League T20 tournament.
He was feted at a party at the team hotel after the lads put in their final preparations ahead of Sunday’s all-important opener against Royal Challengers Bangalore. The match will be played at Supersports Park, Centurion and first ball is 5.30 pm (11.30 am East Caribbean Time/10.30 am Jamaica Time).
The confident and amiable Foo, who set tongues wagging with his superb power-hitting in the recent West Indies Cricket Board’s Caribbean T20 is looking forward to the tournament.
“It will be a matter of doing what I know I can do and not try to do anything extra-special. I am confident that I can go out and represent Guyana in a special way and I will be looking to do just that. Everything I do I try to remain calm and look to give my best. It will be the same in the Champions League. I know I have the backing of my team-mates and we will just look to work together and try to make the people of Guyana proud,” he said.
He will have his biggest assignment on Sunday but the confident young man from Berbice is sure to give it his all.
