Teenager Brathwaite among the runs in Barbados First Division
Bridgetown: West Indies Under-19 batsman Kraigg Brathwaite had a brilliant weekend with the bat as the seventh round of matches in the Barbados Cricket Association’s Division 1 three-day competition came to an end.
Playing for Barbados Youth against Dover, the 17-year-old right-handed opener made 102 in the first innings and 37 not out in the second innings as his team dominated the match. He hit six fours and two sixes in the first innings as the students made 255-4 declared. In the second innings Barbados Youth were 43-0 when the match was called off as a draw.
Dover, who were promoted to the top league earlier this year, batted once and were skittled out for just 108, with Jomel Warrican, the West Indies Under-19 left-arm spinner taking 4-50. He backed up off-spinner Roston Chase, who had 4-23.
In another match, West Indies allrounder Dwayne Smith starred with both the bat and ball as his team Young Men’s Progressive Club (YMPC) earned first innings points against Banks CC. Smith made 96 in the first innings of 231 and return in the second innings with 70 to help his side earn a draw. In the second innings he added 159 for the fifth wicket with Ryan Wiggins, who ended on 77 not out in a score of 228-5.
When Banks CC batted, Smith featured with the ball taking 4-104. The topscore came from Sherwin Campbell, the former West Indies vice captain and West Indies Women’s coach, who made 59 as his team made 295-9 declared.
