Taylor full of confidence as Windies girls gather for camp
Bridgetown, Barbados: The members of the West Indies Women's team will assemble in Barbados on Friday as they start a preparation camp ahead of their tour of South Africa. The Windies girls will be under the supervision of coach Sherwin Campbell as they get ready for the International Cricket Council’s Women’s Challenge. The tournament will be played in Potchefstroom from October 6 to 16.
Speaking ahead of the camp, allrounder Stafanie Taylor said she believes the Windies will do very well at the tournament. “We have a strong team and all our girls are excellent. We just need to go out and do like we did in the ICC World Twenty20 earlier this year. I have played against most of the teams already so I know I need to continue what I have been doing,” she said.
“I’m really looking forward to see how things will go. We have improved quite a bit from where we were, say two years ago. We have the backing of a very good coach and support staff and we just need to continue to perform and grow as players and as a team as we strive to make our supporters proud.”
Taylor, who opens the batting and bowls off-spin is a 19-year-old student from Jamaica. She is ranked among the Top 10 batters in international cricket and is also among the leading allrounders. She is on the short-list for the ICC’s Women’s Cricketer of the Year award at the annual ceremony which will be held on October 6 in India.
