Hat-trick star Martin does it for the team
Kingston, Jamaica - Anthony Martin likes the bright lights. The Leeward Islands spinner enjoys being the man at the centre of everyone’s attention. On Thursday the show man took Sabina Park by storm and bowled the Leewards to victory over the Windwards in the first semi-final of the WICB 50 Over Regional Tournament.
Needing to make 214 for victory, the Windwards were 174-6 needing another 40 runs at just over a run-a-ball. Martin then stepped in and took an amazing solo hat-trick – two bowled and one leg-before – as he single-handedly broke the Windwards’ hearts and brought joy to the hearts of every Leeward Islands supporter. He also won a place in the hearts of all cricket lovers who saw the magical performance.
“I always give my all for my team. At lunch time I told everyone that I was going to do it for the team today. And you saw for yourself here at Sabina Park, I did it for the team. I thought 213 was a good score this pitch. I bowled here before [in the tournament] and I always felt we had a good chance.”
