Heavy rain in Colombo keeps Windies indoors
Colombo, Sri Lanka – The West Indies players were kept indoors on Thursday as the scheduled second day of their three-day match against the Sri Lanka Cricket President's XI was washed out. Heavy rain overnight left the SSC ground flooded. The rain continued into early morning and play on Friday is also in doubt in what is the only warm-up match ahead of the three-match ERI Test Series.
On Wednesday, the Windies batted first and made 176. Vice Captain Brendan Nash topscored with a patient 62, which came off 107 balls and included seven boundaries. He added 81 for the fourth wicket with fellow left-hander Shiv Chanderpaul, who made 33. Adrian Barath made 21 at the top of the order while Andre Russell looked at ease as he hit four boundaries in a run-a-ball 20.
Late in the evening the West Indies bowlers were fired up and collected three quick wickets as the President’s XI closed on 59-3. The wickets went to the new ball pair of Kemar Roach and Nelon Pascal; while skipper Darren Sammy grabbed the other in his first over. Play ended early due to rain and bad light.
