Windies declare at 580 for 9 after Gayle's brilliant 333

Galle, Sri Lanka -- West Indies declared at 580-9 midway in the final session of the second day of the 1st ERI Test match at the Galle International Stadium. The innings was built around a monumental 333 by Chris Gayle. He hit 34 boundaries and nine sixes off 437 balls in more than 10 overs at the crease. It was his highest score and the fourth highest in West Indies history.

For Sri Lanka the best bowler was spinner Ajantha Mendis who took 6-169 from 59 overs to trigger a late order collapse. The Windies will have 14 overs to bowl in the final hour of play.
