Chattergoon injured, Jacobs in
Georgetown, Guyana – An already weakened Guyana team has been hit by another injury blow to their senior most batsman. Veteran opener Sewnarine Chattergoon has suffered a shin injury and has been withdrawn from the Guyana squad which will travel to Jamaica for their first round WICB Regional 4 Day game against the home team.
Middle order batsman and part time off spinner Steven Jacobs – a former West Indies Under 19 captain – will replace Chattergoon who joins clubmate Narsingh Deonarine on the injury list.
Deonarine was replaced in the Guyana squad by rookie left hander Vishaul Singh while the South American side is also missing regular captain Ramnaresh Sarwan and Shivnarine Chanderpaul who are both on West Indies duties in Asia.
The inexperienced Guyanese batting line-up will be heavily reliant on newly appointed captain Assad Fudadin and in-form opener Rajendra Chandrika along with the returning Leon Johnson.
The Guyana side will be coached for the first time by Mark Harper, brother of former West Indies all rounder and head coach Roger Harper after the sacking of Ravindranauth Seeram.
Guyana squad: Assad Fudadin – Captain, Devendra Bishoo – Vice Captain, Shemroy Barrington, Ronsford Beaton, Brendon Bess, Rajendra Chandrika, Derwin Christian, Esuan Crandon, Royston Crandon, Steven Jacobs, Leon Johnson, Veerasammy Permaul, Vishaul Singh.
