Tense battle between TT & CCC

St Augustine, Trinidad & Tobago - With a lead of 102 runs at the end of Day Two at UWISPEC, and with only five CCC wickets remaining, Trinidad and Tobago would normally feel confident. However, with a batting collapse earlier in the day, T&T would have felt relieved to be in such a strong position at stumps having been bowled out by the Combined Campuses and Colleges, for 164 runs.

Starting the day on 45 for two, T&T collapsed under a mixture of good CCC pressure, and poor shot selection. T&T would have started the day with the hope of batting once. That option was thrown out the window as the T&T batsmen played across the line, lost focus, and did everything to lose their wickets.

Rayad Emrit stood alone again as he followed up his great Guaracara Park innings of 97 with a patient and sobered 20 not out. It meant that the CCC had a deficit of 33 runs, and before wiping it off, they had already lost Romel Currency bowled by Shannon Gabriel with ten on the board.

Things would get worse as Emrit and Amit Jaggernauth would each take a wicket, constantly plugging back the tourists. Shannon Gabriel would return late in the day to trap Nkrumah Bonner leg before. A superb moment of fielding from Dave Mohammed earlier sent Omar Phillips back to the pavilion for 19.

Wicket-keeper Kyle Corbin held up the visitor’s inning with a patient and well-played 53. At stumps, Floyd Reifer was not out on eight while Carlos Brathwaite is with him on 13. Gabriel was the pick of the home side’s bowlers with figures of two for 31 in 11 overs.

With showers constantly interrupting the day, play will start at 9:30am tomorrow. Weather permitting; it could be the last day of this First Class match, with no side guaranteed a win overnight.
