Guyana v Leewards abandoned

Georgetown, Guyana - It was not an unfamilar story about cricket in Guyana. Torrential Amazonal rain completely marred the WICB 4 Day Second Round clash between Leeward Islands at Guyana at Bourda.

Not a ball was bowled over the course of the four days as steady showers saw the Bourda putfield fluctuate from being mostly flooded to a muddy slush field and not allowing for any form of competitive cricket.

Given the state of the ground the match officials took an early decision today, Monday (the final day) that no play would be possible and the teams will share the points. Guyana opted for a workout at their indoor facility while the Leeward Islands returned to their team hotel.

In the opening round Leeward Islands lost their first round match against the visiting England Lions inside three days at Warner Park in St Kitts while Guyana lost to Jamaica at Alpart after taking first innings points. Leewards will return to Antigua to face Combined Campuses and Colleges while Guyana travel to St Vincent to face Windward Islands as Round Three will commence on Friday.

Both teams took three points from the match, meaning Guyana now has seven points while Leewards have now registered on the points table.
