Yuvi on fire as India win again
Delhi, India – Yuvraj Singh turned in yet another excellent allround performance to lead India to a five-wicket win over the Netherlands in a Group B match at the Ferozshah Kotla Stadium.
With this win, India moved one step closer for the quarter-final at Ahmedabad.
Batting first, Netherlands was bowled out for 191 in 46.4 overs and India chased down the target in 36.3 overs to end at 191-5 in front a sell-out crowd.
Earlier openers Eric Szwarczynski and Wesley Barresi added 56 for the opening wicket for the Dutch. Thereafter a steady fall of wickets ensured that Netherlands slipped from 99-2 to 127-7.
Skipper Peter Borren (38) and Mudassar Bukhari (21) both hit out boldly – cracking five sixes – and added a crucial 38 runs to push Netherlands to some respectability. For India the best bowlers were left-arm pacer Zaheer Khan (3-20), leg-spinner Piyush Chawla (2-47) and left-arm spinner Yuvraj Singh (2-43).
In their chase, India were off to a brisk start with Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag scoring 69 runs in 7.3 overs.
Left-arm spinner Pieter Seelaar (3-53) picked up wickets thereafter as India slipped to 99-4. Gautam Gambhir and Yuvraj Singh added 40 runs to revive the chase. In the end Yuvraj remained unbeaten 51 off 73 balls with seven boundaries. He hit the winning runs as India maintained their unbeaten record.
