LUNCH: CCC spinners hit back

Cave Hill, Barbados – Left-arm spinner Kavesh Kantasingh and off-spinner Ryan Austin shared eight wickets as Combined Campuses & Colleges bowled their way back into the WICB First-class final at lunch on the second day, Saturday.

Austin bowled unchanged from the northern end of the 3Ws Oval to end with 4-81 from 29.3 overs while Kantasingh took 4-89 from 32 overs. The other wicket to fall went to leg-spinner Nkrumah Bonner. Jamaica started the day on 106-3 but were restricted to 225, a first innings lead of 113.

The innings came to a close with nine wickets down as Brendan Nash was advised not to bat following a blow sustained while fielding on Friday.

For Jamaica, skipper Tamar Lambert topscored with 41 from 101 balls in two hours. The innings was given a late push before lunch by Andre Russell, who launched two massive sixes and a four in 26 off just 31 balls. The Jamaica score could have been a lot less, but CCC were weak in the field and missed six clear chances.

The winners of the match will take home the Headley/Weekes trophy in honour of West Indies legends George Headley and Sir Everton Weekes.
