Windies Under-19 fall to UAE "A"

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, CMC – Another resolute innings from Kraigg Brathwaite was overshadowed by an undefeated hundred from Shaiman Anwar that led United Arab Emirates “A” Team to a six-wicket victory over West Indies Under-19s on Thursday.

Brathwaite, the West Indies Under-19s captain, struck 11 fours in the top score of 83 from 104 balls, as his side were dismissed for 220 in 48.4 overs in the final match of their tour at the Global Cricket Academy Number 2 Oval. Kavem Hodge supported with 47 from 40 balls that included three fours and one six, and Keiron Joseph made 30, as the West Indies Under-19s ended their trip on a losing note.

The visitors were set back in their batting, after they reached 123-3, with Ahmed Raza being the most successful UAE “A” bowler with 3-33 runs from 9.4 overs, Nasir Aziz capturing 2-37 from 10 overs, and Riaz Khaliq taking 2-54 from 10 overs.
West Indies Under-19s’ bowling then lack penetration, as Anwar struck 16 fours and three sixes in an undefeated 103 from 132 balls that anchored the hosts to their target with 36 balls remaining.

Donovan Nelson removed Ramveer Rai for 11 early on, but Anwar then shared stands of 61 and 91 for the second and third wickets respectively, to put UAE "A" firmly on track for victory. Amir Khan was the pick of the West Indies’ bowlers with 2-44 from 10 overs.

The match followed a highly successful bilateral youth series between West Indies Under-19s and Australia Under-19s.
The Caribbean side won a three-match One-day Youth International series 2-1, and earned a four-wicket victory in a three-day match. West Indies Under-19s return to the Caribbean on Saturday.
