Smith hits 130 not out in Windies warm-up
Georgetown, Guyana, CMC – Devon Smith made a confident, unbeaten century on Sunday to highlight the first day of the two-day warm-up match at the West Indies prepare for the Digicel Test Series against Pakistan.
The left-handed opener slammed an undefeated 130 to lead the West Indies XI to 310-5 from 78 overs in their first innings, when bad light stopped play early against an Invitational XI at the Demerara Cricket Club.
Darren Bravo scored 61, Andre Russell made 33 not out, and Ramnaresh Sarwan got 20. Smith crashed 17 fours and two sixes from 224 balls in just under 5 ½ hours.
Lendl Simmons made 13 before Christopher Barnwell trapped him lbw. Bravo made good use of the conditions, striking 12 fours from 67 balls before he became one of two wickets for right-arm seamer Paul Wintz. Bravo and Smith added 94 for the second wicket in quick time while, Smith and Russell have so far added an unbroken stand of 58 for the sixth wicket.
West Indies currently have 15 players preparing for the first Digicel Test, and two will be sent home later this week, when the final squad of 13 will be chosen for the math slated to start on Thursday at the Guyana National Stadium.
