Grenada and Dominica set for T20 Final
Roseau, Dominica, CMC – Defending champions Dominica and Grenada will clash in the Final of the Windward Islands Twenty20 championship.
Both teams advanced to the Championship encounter with third round wins on Saturday at Windsor Park. In the first match, Grenada defeated St. Lucia by 35 runs.
After Grenada chose to bat, West Indies batsmen Devon Smith and Andre Fletcher hit 71 and 52 respectively, as the Spice Isle posted 166-6 from 20 overs.
Smith’s knock of 71, came from 58 balls. The left hander hit seven fours and two sixes. Fletcher’s 42-ball 52 included five fours and two sixes. Bowling for St Lucia, Denis Louis took 3-30, and their captain Gary Mathurin bagged 2-31.
In reply, Craig Emmanuel’s 60 off 59 balls with three fours and two sixes was not enough, as the St Lucians folded for 131 in 18.3 overs. Johnson Charles added 27 and Xavier Gabriel weighed in with 19 from just eight balls.
Denis George with 3-14 was the pick of the bowlers for Grenada, John Olive finished with 2-17, and Ronald Etienne took 2-20.
In the second match, defending champions Dominica cruised into the finals, with a comfortable eight-wicket victory over St Vincent & the Grenadines.
The Vincentians chose to bat, and were dismissed for 96 in 17.2 overs. Only Alston Bobb with 31 showed any resistance to the bowling of Ray Casimir and Kavem Hodge.
Off-spinner Hodge took 3-10, while Casimir recorded the first hat-trick of the tournament, as he finished with 3-9 in three overs. In Dominica’s 97-2 off 15.3 overs, Kirstin Casimir hit an unbeaten 42.
