Jamaica take lead in Under-15s

Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, CMC – A solid all-round performance from Ramaal Lewis ushered Jamaica to first innings points over Windward Islands in their rain-hit, drawn first round in the WICB Under-15 Championship on Sunday.

Chasing a modest 66, Jamaica needed 14 not out from Lewis to carry them over the threshold on the final day of their match at Honeymoon Park, finishing on 82 for nine from their allocation of 30 overs.

Romaine Morris hit the top score of 22 for Jamaica, whose batting wobbled after Darel Cyrus and Devon Hypolite collected two wickets apiece. Earlier, Lewis captured five wickets for 18 runs from 11.2 overs and Nicholas Walters two for eight, as Windwards were dismissed for 65 in 28.2 overs. Gideon Pope led all scorers in the match with 27 for the Windwards.

Not a ball was bowled on the final day in the other two matches, which ended in no-decisions. Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana failed to get onto the park on either day at Avidesh Samaroo Park, and Leewards were unable to resume from their overnight 66 for three against Barbados.

The second round opens on Tuesday, when Barbados face Windwards at Wilson Road, Leewards meet Guyana at Guaracara Park, and Trinidad and Tobago play Jamaica at Gilbert Park.

Standings: Jamaica 6, Barbados 3, Guyana 3, Leewards 3, Trinidad and Tobago 3, Windwards 3
