Tea Day 3: Shiv gets Laxman as Windies soldier on
Roseau, Dominica, CMC – West Indies grabbed key wickets before the tea interval to peg back India and set up an interesting final session on the third day of the third and final Digicel Test at Windsor Park on Friday.
Virat Kohli fell for 30 and VVX Laxman was prised out for 56 as India tumbled to 168 for three to 182 for five at the interval.
Resuming at 102 for two, India lost Abinhav Mukund after he added just 10 to his lunch time 52, and seemed poised to take a firm control of the match with Kohli and Laxman involved in an enterprising 52-run, fourth wicket stand.
However, Kohli tickled a leg-side catch to wicketkeeper Carlton Baugh off captain and medium pacer Darren Sammy at 168 for four. With tea in sight, Laxman perished at the hands of part-time spinner Shiv Chanderpaul, smartly stumped by Baugh.
Mukund pressed on after lunch, gathering successive boundaries off pacer Fidel Edwards’ second over as he extended his third wicket stand with Laxman to 98.
He seemed to be moving into another gear when he popped a catch to Adrian Barath at forward short leg off leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo.
Laxman, who faced 129 balls and hit three fours, continued to blunt the Windies attack while Kohli played freely in stroking two fours off 53 balls.
With tea approaching, Sammy prised out Kohli before Chanderpaul, called upon for his first bowl in Tests in four years, got Laxman after the batsman left alone a wide delivery to be stumped by the super-alert Baugh as he raised his back foot.
