Trini girls win tour opener
Brighton, England – Trinidad and Tobago Women’s team made a winning start to their tour of England beating Sussex Women on Saturday. The Trinis were led by brilliant bowling from spinner Alisa Mohammed and a excellent batting by skipper Merissa Aguilleiria.
Bowling first, the regional champs limited the home side to 221 for seven wickets. Mohammed took two for 45 from 10 overs while her twin sister Anisa Mohammed was the most economical with one for 34 from her 10 overs. There was also a wicket apiece for opening bowler Kirbiyina Alexander and left-arm seamer Stacy-Ann King.
Set a challenging target, skipper Aguilleria played a true captain’s knock and led the way with 78 not out. She got good support from Amanda Samaroo (44), King (36) and Gaitri Seetahal (31).
Trinidad and Tobago are the defending WICB Women’s Tournament champions. They are using the tour as preparation for the upcoming regional tournament which will be played in Barbados next month.
The tour continues on Monday with a match against Gloucestershire and Wiltshire Women combined.
