Mathurin barely misses delivering on prediction

London, England – West Indies captain Darren Sammy revealed that rookie spinner Garey Mathurin told him he would take “four wickets for 10 runs” before England started their innings in Sunday’s second and final T20 International at the Kia Oval. Mathurin, a left-arm spinner debuting two days after celebrating his 28th birthday, almost fulfilled the promise and ended with the remarkable figures of three wickets for nine runs off four overs. All three victims were cleaned bowled. The Windies shot out England for 88 after making 113 for five, to win by 25 runs and level the two-match series.

WICB announces ODI & Test squads to Bangladesh

St John’s, Antigua – The West Indies Cricket Board announced the West Indies One Day International and Test squads for the tour to Bangladesh.

Denesh Ramdin has returned to both the ODI and Test squads while off spinner Shane Shillingford returns to the Test squad along with rookie opener Kraigg Brathwaite. Keiran Powell, the Nevisian left handed top order batsman has also been included in both squads as well.

Carlos Brathwaite, the Barbadian all rounder has received a call up to the West Indies ODI squad.

Charles expects Windwards to win Super50

CASTRIES, St. Lucia, CMC – Xavier Gabriel was named the only uncapped regional One-day player in the Windward Islands’ 14-member squad for next month’s Regional Super50 in Guyana.

Chairman of the Windwards Selection Panel Julian Charles said they have decided to choose an experienced squad for this competition in the hope of going all the way and winning.

“We believe we have a strong enough squad to win the competition,” he told the CMC Sports Wire.

Mathurin replaces withdrawn Nurse for T20s

Bridgetown, Barbados – The West Indies Cricket Board’s Selection Panel has named left-arm spinner Garey Mathurin as a replacement for off-spinner Ashley Nurse in the squad for the two T20 Internationals in England next week.

Nurse did not meet the required fitness standard during the ongoing West Indies team camp in Barbados and has been withdrawn from the squad as a result.

Charles eager to learn from Dessie Haynes

Bridgetown, Barbados – In just his first week in West Indies colours Johnson Charles says he has “learned a lot of great new things” while working with West Indies Batting Consultant Desmond Haynes. Charles, a top-order batsman from the island of St Lucia, earned a call-up to the squad for the two-match T20 Series against England next week at the Kia Oval in London. Since joining the team for the one-week preparatory camp he has worked closely with Haynes, the legendary opening batsman.
