Sammy confident as Windies get down to hard work

Bridgetown, Barbados – West Indies captain Darren Sammy says the signs are looking really good as the Windies prepares for the upcoming T20 Series in England next week. An upbeat Sammy expressed confidence that his players will do well when they face Graeme Swann’s men at the Kia Oval in London. The two matches are slated for Friday, September 23 and Sunday, September 25.

World famous clubs to benefit from Digicel Grassroots Grants

St John’s, Antigua – The world renowned Kingston Cricket Club (KCC) and Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) are among eight clubs which have been selected in the second round to benefit from the WICB Digicel Grassroots Club Grants Programme.

The home club of the legendary West Indies captain Clive Lloyd and former world record holder for most wickets in Tests, Lance Gibbs – the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) – has also been selected to benefit from the Grant Programme.

ST JOHN’S, Antigua – One of the highlights of the INET International Pairs is the fund-raising auction held during the prize giving cocktail and this year’s recipient will be former West Indies and Windward Islands cricketer Winston Davis. Davis became a tetraplegic following a tragic accident in 1998 and in a recent interview he stated that the accident was not the end of his life. “People come to me and say how you coping and I say I am not coping, I am living. You go from crying to living,” he says.

GRENVILLE, Grenada, CMC – A purposeful, unbeaten 32 from Stacy-Ann King formalised a four-wicket victory for West Indies Women over Pakistan Women in a low-scoring second Twenty20 International on Tuesday. King led the way for the Windies Women, as they successfully chased a paltry 66 for victory, winning with seven balls remaining at Progress Park in this rural community. Pakistan Women, choosing to bat, had been dismissed for 65 in 19.5 overs – no batter reached 20.

GRENVILLE, Grenada, CMC – West Indies Women drew first blood in their four-match Twenty20 International series against Pakistan, winning a low-scoring, rain-ravaged encounter by a run here Tuesday. Sent in to bat, the hosts rattled up 90 for eight off 18 overs after rain interrupted their innings at Progress Park. World-rated opener Stafanie Taylor hit the top score of 26 while Stacy-Ann King scored 16, with Sadia Yousuf and Qanita Jalil both claiming two for 14. Chasing a revised target after another weather interruption, Pakistan came up short after requiring seven from the last over.
