Georgetown, Guyana - Kaieteur News and Statistician Charwayne Walker continue their look at the 1972 Test series between West Indies and New Zealand. As the preceding two matches before it, the third, fourth and fifth Test matches between the two sides ended in stalemates.

Third Test: West Indies first innings 133 all out – Michael Findley 44 not out, Skipper Garfield ‘Gary’ Sobers 35, Maurice Foster 22.  Bowling for New Zealand, Bruce Taylor snared 7 for 74 from 20.3 overs, Brian Condgon 2 for 26 from 16 overs. New Zealand first innings 422 all out – Brian Condgon 126, B. Hastings 105, G.E. Vivien 38.  Bowling for West Indies, Gary Sobers took 4 for 69 from 29 overs, Vanburn Holder 3 for 91 from 40 overs, Grayson Shillingford 2 for 65 from 24.2 overs.  West Indies second innings 564 for 8 declared – Charlie Davis 183, Gary Sobers 142, Lawrence Rowe 51, David Holford 50, Michael Carew 45.  Bowling for New Zealand, Brian Condgon took 2 for 66, Bruce Taylor 2 for 108, H.J. Howarth 2 for 138 from 74 overs.

West Indies vs New Zealand 1972 Fourth Test at Bourda; result – drawn.

West Indies first innings 365 all out  – debutant Alvin Kallicharran 100 Not out, Geoffrey Greenidge 50, Clive Lloyd 43, Roy Federicks 41, Lawrence Rowe 31.  Bowling for New Zealand, Bruce Taylor took 3 for 105 from 37 overs, Brian Congdon 2 for 86 from 33 overs.  New Zealand first innings 543 for 3 declared – Glenn Turner 259, Terry Jarvis 182, Brian Congdon 61 not out.  Bowling for West Indies, Tony Howard took 2 for 140 from 62 overs, David Holford 1 for 78 from 54 overs.  West Indies second innings 86 without loss – Roy Federicks 42 Not out, Geoffrey Greenidge 35 not out.

West Indies vs New Zealand 1972 Fifth Test at Queens Park Oval: result – drawn.

West Indies first innings 368 all out – Alvin Kallicharran 101, Roy Federicks 60, David Holford 46 Retired Hurt, Charlie Davis 40, Geoffrey Greenidge 38.   Bowling for New Zealand, Bruce Taylor took 3 for 74 from 19.4 overs, H.J. Howarth 2 for 109 from 51 overs.  New Zealand first innings 162 all out – Terry Jarvis 40, Brian Hasting 27, G.E. Vivien 24, Bruce Taylor 26.  Bowling for West Indies, Inshan Ali took 5 for 59 from 26.4 overs, Garry Sobers 2 for 17 from 11 overs.  West Indies second innings 194 – Vanburn Holder 42, David Holford 25, Charlie Davis 23, Geoffrey Greenidge 21.

Bowling for New Zealand Bruce Taylor took 5 for 41 from 24 overs.  H. J. Howarth took 3 for 70 from 29 overs.  New Zealand second innings 253 for 7, Brian Congdon 58, Glenn Turner 50, Bruce Taylor 42 Not out, H.J. Howarth 40 Not out, Terry Jarvis 22.  Bowling for West Indies Vanburn Holder took 4 for 41 from 26 overs, Inshan Ali 2 for 99 from 51 overs.  Several players that represented the West Indies in that historical 1972 series are now deceased: Inshan Ali, Roy Federicks, Grayson Shilling Ford and Michael (Joey) Carew gone but not forgotten.  R.I.P Champs.
