WICB Under-19 First Round Results

Bridgetown, Barbados — Trinidad and Tobago made an impressive start to the West Indies Cricket Board’s Under-19 50-over Tournament, while Barbados and Guyana also recorded comfortable victories on the opening day on Sunday.

The Trinis made a huge statement as they hammered the Leeward Islands by a whopping 161 runs at Friendship. Nicholas Pooran made whirlwind century, while Stephan Wharwood and Anthony Simmons topped up with blazing half-centuries as T&T made 332-6 off their 50 overs. They went on an all-out attack as 140 runs came in the final 10 overs.

Windies ready for NZ challenge

Brisbane, Australia - West Indies and New Zealand will go face-to-face in the quarter-finals of the International Cricket Council Under-19 World Cup on Monday (Sunday 7.30 pm Eastern Caribbean Time/6.30 pm Jamaica Time).

The two teams will feature at Endeavour Park 1. Both sides have appeared in an ICC U19 Cricket World Cup final but are yet to win it. New Zealand lost the final to England in 1998 while the West Indies lost to Pakistan in the 2004 final.

Dember takes 14 as Windwards draw

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – A defiant 50-run, seventh wicket stand between Delbert Gayle and Bryan Gayle, earned Jamaica a draw after they seemed headed for certain defeat on Thursday’s last day of their clash with Windward Islands.

Trailing by 76 runs on first innings after the Windwards were dismissed for 192 in their final round match in the Regional Under-19 three-day Championship, Jamaica found themselves tottering on 41 for six before the unrelated Gayles arrived at the crease to save the day.

Merry Christmas as T&T score big

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Brian Christmas and opener Jeremy Solozano plundered hundreds while captain Vikash Mohan fell just short of three figures, as Trinidad and Tobago produced a fabulous batting effort to gain first innings points over Leeward Islands, in their drawn fifth round match WICB Regional Under-19 three-day Championship.

Barbados win Under-19 Three-day trophy

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC - Barbados were crowned new kings of the WICB regional under-19 three- day championship Thursday after their match with Guyana ended in draw at the Desmond Haynes Oval.

Despite not winning a single match, Barbados accumulated 45.5 points including a tournament-high 18.5 bonus points and 27 match points. Guyana finished runners up with 38 points including two wins with 33 match points but only 5 bonus points.
