Gibson full of praise for 'mature' Barath

Colombo, Sri Lanka – West Indies Head Coach Ottis Gibson has praised young opener Adrian Barath for his brilliant maiden One-Day International century on Monday.

Gibson described Barath’s stroke-filled 113 off 129 balls as “something special” and said the 20-year-old right-hander showed maturity beyond his years.

Colombo, Sri Lanka – Adrian Barath played a special innings on Monday as he recorded his maiden One-Day International century against Sri Lanka in the 1st ODI at Sinhalese Sports Club.

He made a stroke-filled 113 from just 129 balls in just his sixth ODI innings as the Windies made 145-5 off their 50 overs, before rain washed out the match.

Colombo, Sri Lanka – Adrian Barath made his maiden One-Day century as the West Indies made 245-5 off their 50 overs, batting first in the 1st ERI One-Day International against Sri Lanka on Monday.

After the Windies batted there was a heavy downpour and washed out the rest of the match before the Sri Lankans could start their reply.

Windies win toss, bat in 1st ODI

Colombo, Sri Lanka – West Indies captain Darren Sammy won the toss and decided to bat in the 1st ERI One-Day International against Sri Lanka at the Sinhalese Sports Club on Monday.

The Windies will be without allrounder Dwayne Bravo, who has a slight right knee niggle. It is a precaution and he will be treated on a daily basis and is expected to be fit for the 2nd ODI on Thursday.

Windies aim for winning start

Colombo, Sri Lanka – The West Indies will open their three-match One-Day International Series against Sri Lanka on Monday at the Sinhalese Sports Club. The series will form the main preparation for both teams ahead of the International Cricket Council’s Cricket World Cup 2011.

After Sunday’s training session, Windies skipper Darren Sammy outlined the side’s plans for the series-opener as well as the entire series. He noted that the aim was to get off to a winning start and set the tone for the three-match rubber.
