Phillips leads CC&C to massive win

Cave Hill, Barbados – Combined Campuses & Colleges recorded a superb victory against Barbados to go top of the league table in the WICB First-Class Championship, on Sunday.

A champion innings by captain Omar Phillips piloted the students to 178-5, after being set 173 for victory in a low-scoring match at the 3Ws Oval. The five-wicket victory took CC&C to 57 points. It was the first defeat for Barbados, but they ended near the bottom of the table on 27 points.

CC&C have advanced to the semi-finals next weekend.

Windwards dominate Leewards

Gros Islet, St Lucia – Half-centuries from Keddy Lesporis and Andre Fletcher powered Windward Islands into a commanding position against Leeward Islands in their final round WICB First-Class Championship match, on Saturday.

Lesporis stroked 86 and Fletcher got 70, to propel the hosts to 285-6 at the close on the second day at the Beausejour Cricket Ground. The Windwards had earlier routed the Leewards for 72 after the visitors resumed the day on 62-5, and now hold a healthy lead of 212 runs with two days left.

Jamaica grab lead over England Lions

Kingston, Jamaica – Jamaica produced a whole-hearted lower-order effort to snatch vital first innings points over England Lions on the third day of their final round match in the WICB First Class Championship on Saturday.

Resuming the day on 259-4, four still 99 runs adrift of England Lions’ 358, the hosts got 42 from Chadwick Walton and 40 from veteran left-hander Wavell Hinds, before they were dismissed for 376. At the close, the Lions were 149-3, a lead of 131 runs heading into Sunday’s final day at Sabina Park.

Carter hits 99 but CC&C have upper hand

Cave Hill, Barbados – Jonathan Carter missed out on a maiden first-class century on Saturday as the clash between Barbados and Combined Campuses & Colleges remained tantalising poised heading into Sunday’s third day.

The left-hander fell for 99, an innings that lifted Barbados to 195 all out in their second innings and set CC&C 173 to win their final round WICB First-Class Championship match at the 3Ws Oval.

At the close of the second day, CC&C had reached 36-1, still 137 runs adrift of their fourth win of the season.
