Black Caps give Canada a whipping

Mumbai, India – New Zealand booked their passage from Group A in to the ICC Cricket World Cup quarter-finals on Sunday after Brendon McCullum set up a 97-run victory with a chanceless century.

McCullum’s well paced 101 plus a late flurry which helped the Black Caps reach 358-6 with an overall tally of 12 sixes left the Canadians with a target which proved far beyond them.

Nero appointed to Emirates Intl Panel

St John’s, Antigua – The International Cricket Council has approved the West Indies Cricket Board’s recommendations for the Emirates International Panel of ICC Umpires.

Veteran Jamaican umpire Norman Malcolm has been re-appointed while Trinidadian Peter Nero has been appointed to the panel for the first time. Joel Wilson – also from Trinidad – and Barbadian Gregory Brathwaite have been appointed 3rd Umpires on the Emirates International Panel.

T&T have firm grip over Leewards

Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, CMC – Trinidad and Tobago narrowly grabbed first innings points over Leeward Islands and tightened their grip on the match with two late strikes on the second day of their fifth round match of the Regional First Class Championship on Saturday.

Struggling at 63-5 in their response to the Leewards’ 211 all out on the first day, T&T showed great character to fight back and snatch a slender 19-run lead at Queen’s Park Oval.

Woakes wrecks Guyana with hat-trick

Providence, Guyana, CMC – Chris Woakes grabbed a superb hat-trick to condemn Guyana to their second lowest total in the modern WICB Regional first-class championship against the England Lions on Saturday.

Woakes, a tall right-arm seamer, removed Vishaul Singh, Veerasammy Permaul and Zaheer Mohamed to trigger a slide, which sent Guyana crashing to 69 all out in their first innings on the second day of their rain-affected fifth round match at the Guyana National Stadium.

Sebastien's six puts slide on Bajans

Bridgetown, Barbados, CMC – Andre Fletcher continued his rich vein of form for Windward Islands, after career-best bowling from Liam Sebastien against Barbados in the WICB Regional first-class championship on Saturday.

Fletcher was unbeaten on 53 to lead Windwards to 116-2, replying to Barbados’ first innings total of 341 on the second day of their fifth round match at Kensington Oval.
