Pakistan beat UWI VC's XI by 68 runs

Castries, St Lucia – A century by stand-in captain Mohammad Hafeez and a four-wicket haul by Abdur Rehman steered Pakistan to a comfortable 68-run victory over the UWI Vice Chancellor’s XI, as the tourists made a winning start to their tour here Monday.

Hafeez leads Pakistan in early domination of VC XI

Castries, St Lucia - Pakistan have opened their campaign in the West Indies with a strong batting performance after winning the toss in their warm up match against the Vice Chancellor's XI at Mindoo Phillip Park in St Lucia.

Stand in captain Mohammed Hafeez stroked a compact half century to lead the visitors to 145 for 1 by the end of the 31st over. The right hander reached 79 from 80 balls and has so far struck eight fours and a six.

Young Windies lose first One-Dayer

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, CMC – An innings of 74 from 105 balls from captain Kraigg Brathwaite failed to upstage a hundred from Cameron Bancroft, which set Australia Under-19s up for a 63-run victory in the first youth One-Dayer on Sunday.

Brathwaite struck 10 boundaries, as his side, chasing 241 for victory from their allocation of 50 overs, were dismissed for 177 with 35 balls remaining in the match contested at the Global Cricket Academy Oval 2.

WICB pays tribute to Gerry Alexander

St John’s, Antigua – The West Indies Cricket Board has paid tribute to former captain and wicket-keeper Franz Copeland Murray “Gerry” Alexander, who died on Saturday in his native Jamaica. He was 82.

Speaking on behalf of the WICB, President Dr Julian Hunte, hailed Alexander as a stalwart, and recalled the great contribution he made during the famous Tied Test Series in Australia, under captain Sir Frank Worrell.

Gros Islet, St LuciaPakistan Team Manager Intikhab Alam believes that Umar Akmal, the dashing right handed middle order batsman can become a darling of the West Indian public.

“The people of the Caribbean will like the way he plays because he’s so entertaining and exciting and hits the ball exceptionally well,” said Alam of the 20 year old who has already featured in 21 International Twenty20s and 37 One Day Internationals.
